Ringworm Treatment

According to a report from Trinidad and Tobago's Newsday, scalp ringworm is slowly and steadily increasing, especially among the school children.

Here is an account of the mother of a 5 year old...

After finding a circular patch on her son’s scalp, Paula James, mother of a five year old boy, tried many home remedies to get rid of the scaly patches. My son’s teacher always complained about the rash on his scalp. Eventually his hair started to fall off and there was a bald spot on the area where the rash had formed,” James said.

"People prescribed a lot of for me to use. I used herbal treatments, whitfield ointment, apple cider vinegar and even antifungal shampoos and creams. Nothing worked.” Sometimes it would go away for a while, but whenever he got a hair cut it would recur.“Eventually I suspected it was a fungus from his barber because my younger son who doesn’t get his hair cut does not have the fungus,” said James. “ I took my son to the skin specialist where it was confirmed that he had ring worm of the scalp.”

This thing then irritates you by continuously itching and you will realize that something bad is happening to your skin.

First of all let it be clear that this infection can occur on the scalp, any area on the skin, feet as well as on nails.

Scalp ringworm (tinea capitis)

When the ringworm occurs on the scalp, the hair become weak and brittle which can be easily broken. If it grows without proper medication then the hair will clear from the affected area. The place where it occurs can become swollen and red. In other instances
a rash is formed with black dots and mostly tinea capitis can be seen in children.

On the Skin (tinea corporis)

The ringworm occuring on the skin looks like a red patch having a worm like outline with the inner portion cleared. It constantly itches and feels strange when you touch it because of the moistness. In some other cases it is dry and scaly.

Feet (tinea pedis)

Usually on the feet a ringworm occurs between the toes. It will be really troublesome and is patchy with the skin on the affected area peeling off. This ringworm on the foot is known as athlete's foot.

Ringworm on nails (tinea unguium)

If you get ringworm on the nails, then those nails become brittle, yellowish and thick. This is rarely seen among the people. So the

A government hospital in Tamil Nadu, India is using fish to cure various skin problems. One of the doctors says this regarding the treatment

"Certain species of fish are allowed to bite the affected skin, could cure psoriasis, ringworm infections, cellulitis, sores and even some types of boils."

The affected area is applied with fruit jam and immersed in water. Two fresh water fishes are let into the water. One is loach and the other is silverfish. These fishes eat the bacteria along with the jam. As a result the bacteria will decrease, which will cure the ailment.
